note 2 : project was started with ringing approximately 1100 Oystercatchers in the winters of 2001 and 2003 at different sites in the Dutch Wadden Sea. Nowadays the colour-ringing scheme is also in use for population-studies on local breeding birds in The Netherlands and Germany and a few wintering birds in Mauretania.

note 3 : each bird has a small plain colour-ring on one tibia (black, green, orange, red or yellow), and a metal ring on the other tibia. 

note 4 : on each tarsus there is a large colour-ring, with an one letter-inscription. Used colours are: white ring with black letter, yellow ring with black letter, orange ring with black letter, lime (light green) ring with black letter, red ring with white letter, green ring with white letter, black ring with white letter and cyan-blue ring with letter.
