Red Knot

Combination of :
* orange flag with a black (or white) three alpha-numeric code (on left tarsus).
* green or pale-blue or yellow or white ring (on left tarsus).
* metal ring (on right tarsus).

The position of the flag can be on the tibia (left or right) or on the tarsus (above, under or between the 2 colour-rings, left or right).

note 3a. : yellow flags are used from 1998 till 2003 ; used c-rings are blue, red, yellow, white. There are only very few birds left from these series, in 2017 we started again with yellow flags.

note 3b. : red flags are used from 2002 till 2007 ; used c-rings are blue, red, yellow, white.   

note 3c. : dreen flags are used from 2004 till 2010 ; used c-rings are green, red, yellow, white.  

note 3d : lime flags are used from 2008 till 2013 ; used c-rings are green, red, yellow and lime.

note 3e : black flags are in use since 2011, from 2014 onwards pale blue is added to the combination. Used colours in combination with a black flag are red, yellow, green, black and pale blue.    

note 3f : yellow flags are used from 2017 onwards. Used colours in combination with a yellow flag are red, yellow, green, black and pale blue.

note 5 : the metal ring is always on the tibia (except for a few cases, were the metal ring was already present!) and is not a part of the combination. 

note 6 : until November 2017 over 11.000 knots were colorringed, including 3300 on the Banc d’Arguin, Mauritania and 650 along the France Atlantic coast.

note 7 : ring loss and discoloration of colour rings is noticed ; please inform us when birds with incomplete combinations are observed.

note 8 : this project concerns C.c. islandica and C.c. canutus.
