note 1 : used codes are : AA, AB, AC, AD, AE, AH, AJ, AK, AL, AM, AN, AO, AP, AS, AT, AU, AW, AX, AY, AZ, JA, JB, JC, JD, JE, JH, JJ, JK, JL, JM, JN, JO, JP, JS, JT, JU, JW, JX, JY, JZ, ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD, ZE, ZH, ZJ, ZK, ZL, ZM.
note 2 : during the field season 2002-2003 some 30 bitterns wree ringed with colour rings in Belarus. The birds were also ringed with stainless steel rings of the Belarus Ringing Scheme (series ZA) with the inscription : Belarus Minsk Institute of Zoology.

Blue ring (for male) with white horizontal 3 alpha-numeric code (P01 to P35).

Red  ring (for female) ring without code.

Orange ring with black horizontal 3 alpha-numeric code (Z06-Z35).

note 1 : during 2003 39 nestlings were ringed only with steel rings, while in 2004 2 adult females and 33 nestlings.

note 2 : adult birds have 1 steel ring, 1 blue ring with code and 1 red ring without code.

note 3 : during 2005 29 chicks and 5 adult birds were ringed. Adults bitters were ringed with a steel ring, a red ring (female) or a blue (male) ring without code and 1 orange ring with black horizontal alphanumeric code (Z01-Z05).
