note 1 : this project should start during summer 2003 in collaboration with Norwegian researchers on Svalbard.

note 2 : the plastic rings have the following characteristics : length 18mm, internal diameter 7,5mm.

c-ring with code (letter ‘D’ or letter ‘d’ or letter ‘T’ + individual combination of unmarked rings on other leg).

note 1 : code is repeated 4 times around the ring.

note 2 : letter ‘D’ or letter ‘d’ is for the project based at Dunbar, East Lothian Scotland, where 1900 birds were ringed upto 2008. 

note 3 : a different colour is used each year

note 4 : letter ‘T’ is for the project based on the River Tyne, Gateshead North East England where 141 birds were ringed up to 2008.

note 5 : ringing has now finished but many birds are still alive and sightings are still needed.
