Herring Gull

Combination of a coded legring (1 letter or 1 number) (on one leg) and a coded legring (1 or 2 or 3 horizontal lines) (on other leg).

note 1 : this is the former project of Arie Spaans.

Orange ring with a black two alpha code.
Orange ring with a white two alpha code.

note 1 : used codes are with a ":" or a "+" between the two letters.

note 2 :

Orange ring with a black 4 alpha-numeric code (starting letter 'KJ').

note 1 : KJxx or KJxxx : (where x is number).
note 2 : note 1100 birds ringed in Russian Karelia, mostly without metal ring.

Orange (tall) ring with a green/black 4 numeric and metal ring on other leg.

note 1 : used numbers are from 0001 till 9999.

note 2 : birds may be colour dyed with either Rhodamine (pink/red).

note 3 : the orange colour turned slowly yellowish. Take care !!

note 4 :

Orange ring with a 2 alpha-numeric code code.

note 1 : rings are placed above the knee (on the tibia) for better observation results in the colony (high vegetation) and on rubbish-dumps. All other colours (with vertical placed codes) above the knee are also part of this project.

note 2 : In some series  used dots (1.A), colons (1:A) or single or double bars (1|A or 1||A). Those additional marks are part of the code

note 3 : In some series is an additional plain marker present at the other tibia, this marker is part of the combination.

note 4: Same codes can be used by other large gull species. If you have doubts about the species and/or code, please note the age and position of all the rings, including the metal ring.

note 5: used letters/numers are : A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, + and =. Only the letters I, O and Q are never used

note 6: In this project are also used a combination of two coloured rings with both one letter or number at each tibia.

note 7 : 

Orange rings with a black 4 alpha-numeric code (ending letter 'H') (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1 : “nnnH”  [where n is number].
note 2 : these rings will be used for gulls wintering in Croatia, mainly on Zagreb rubbish dump.
Most rings are used on Larus micahellis, some on cachinnans), possible also some on Larus argentatus.

[ letter, letter, number, T ] or [ letter, number, letter, T ] and metal ring (on right tarsus) with as scheme site identifier is T (for Thames) (as last letter).

note 1 : UNused codes are the letters E, I, O and Q and additionally, to avoid the remote possibility of any confusion with YLG in Spain, codes will not start with the letter B.

note 2 : example used codes : VA0T, VA1T, … VD1T, VD2T … VF1T, VF3T … J6GT

note 3 : some codes are starting with the letter J.

note 4 :

Orange ring with a 4 alpha-numeric code (last letter 'M' after a 'colon' (on left leg) and metal ring (on right leg).

note 1 : Manx RG use orange ring with a black code : nxx:M , where n=letter and x=number).

Pale-blue ring with a black 4 alpha-numeric code (starting letter 'B') (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1 : B000, B001, B002, ... B00A, B00B ... B01A, B01B, ...

note 2 : first, pulli and adults ringed at the rehabilitated centre at Allouville-Bellefosse and the released on the seashore of Normandy. Then pulli are ringed on the roof on the town Le Havre, where they were born.
