Combination of two rings [(black ring with a 2 alpha-numeric code) and white ring with letter “A”) and a metal ring.

note 1: used colours are black (below) and white (above). Reading upwards.

note 2: flying birds carry a black ring with 2 alphanumeric code and a white ring with the letter A on right tarsus. Metal ring is on the left tibia.

note 3: pulli carry a black ring with 2 alphanumeric code and a white ring with the letter A on left tarsus. Metal ring is on the right tibia.

note 4 : letters not used : B, D, G, I, O, Q.

note 1 : last position uses each letter of the alphabet and * is a number from 0-9.

note 2 : used codes are T*TR through to T*TZ ; T*UA through to T*UZ ;  T*VA through to T*VZ ; T*WA through to T*WZ ; T*XA through to T*XZ ; T*YA through to T*YZ ; T*ZA through to T*ZZ.

note 3 : birds are ringed on the Isle of Man, British Isles.

note 1 : birds are ringed in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. This is a successor to the project run by Jamie Hooper from 1998 – 2007.

White ring with black 4 alpha-numeric code (starting letter 'C').

note 1 :  Cxxx (where x is a number or letter).
note 2 : 10000 white rings were delivered 1993-2003.
note 3 : many rings have also small text MUS FINLAND or MUS Z FINLAND.
note 4 : recent years some small check marks were added in the code (spots, underlines). Please, report them also.
note 5 : a similar project exists on Lesser Balack-backed Gull. The LBBGull c-ringing-project has been very successful. In ten years we have got almost 70000 reads from 4000 individuals. Now about 8000 reads/1000 individuals are made yearly. Before read ringing there were only 2000 found (about 50 ones/year) from 50.000 metal ringed LBbGs. The population of nominate LBBG (L. fuscus fuscus) has been strongly decreasing in Finland. It crashed to half of the one of the 1970’s and the bird was taken to the Red Book of Finnish Birds.

note 2 : used black codes are A1AA - A1ZZ ,  A2AA - A2ZZ , A3AA - A3ZZ , A4AA - A4ZZ , A6AA - A6ZZ , A7AA - A7ZZ.

note 3 : used red codes are A5AA - A5ZZ.

note 4 : codes will be used till A9**. The wild gull chicks have been ringed on roof nests along the south coast.
