Combination of :
* a flag (on either position). 
* 2 c-rings (on tarsus left). 
* 2 c-rings (on tarsus right)
* metal ring (on tibia).

note 1 : the c-rings are always on tarsus, two left and two right.

note 2 : black, lime, red or yellow flag can be on eight positions.
The position of the flag can be on the tibia (left or right) or on the tarsus (above, under or between the 2 colour-rings, left or right).

note 3 : the metal ring is always on the tibia, but this ring is not part of the combination.

note 4a : yellow flags are used since 2001 ; used c-rings are blue, red, yellow, white.

note 4b : red flags are used from 2006 onwards ; used c-rings are blue, red, yellow, white.  

note 4c : lime flags are used from 2010 onwards ; used c-rings are blue, red, yellow and lime.

note 4d : black flags are in use since spring 2014 ; used colours in combination with a black flag are red, yellow, green, black and pale blue.    

note 5 : ring loss and discoloration of colour rings is noticed ; please inform us when birds with incomplete combinations are observed.

note 6 : this NIOZ-project is in cooperation with VRS Castricum, VRS Franeker and VRS Calidris. Until November 2017, 7200 birds were ringed, including 450 on the Banc d’Arguin, Mauritania.
