Waders
White ring with black 3 alpha-numeric code (1 letter and 2 numbers) (on left tibia) , some birds with green flag (transponder) and metal ring (on right tibia).
note 1 : used codes will be A01 to A99 till Z01 to Z99. The white ring with black code is always on the left or right tibia.
note 2 : the green flag and metal ring is always on the other tibia, but is not a part of the individual code. In the flag is a transponder, which is part of a project together with Martin Bulla from the Max Plank Institute from Germany. It is to find out the differences in breeding behaviour between male/female and waders in the arctic and with a day/night rhythm.
note 3 : The project is a Retrapping Adults for Survival project at the former island of Wieringen. Between 2000 and 2009 more then 300 birds (218 adults and 88 juveniles) were ringed. The survival rate differs per year, but is normally between 75 and 95% for adults. Most birds are seen in the breeding area, but some interesting ring readings along the flyway between Netherlands and Africa are in the database nowadays.
note 4 : the project runs on breeding birds and pulli, on the most northern point of Noord-Holland, Waddenseacoast, The Netherlands.
