Plovers

species:
Common Ringed Plover
scientific name:
Charadrius hiaticula
notes:

Yellow flag with 3 black letters (on right tibia) and red ring (on left tibia).

note 1 : right tibia: yellow flag engraved in black with three letters; left tibia : red ring; left tarsus : metal ring.

note 2 : Sunnmøre Ringing Group is responsible for the project. The birds will be flagged on  migration in Makkevika, on our wader station Giske OS,  Møre & Romsdal county, Norway. Until now we have ringed 8685  (only metal ring). The ringing varies from 100 -1000 birds/year. Most of the birds are caught in mist nets in night on low tide.

note 3: most of the birds caught are young. We have recoveries in breeding time from N-Norway, N-Sweden and N-Finland. In winter i.e. from Senegal (3), Sierra Leone (1) and Ghana (2).

note 4 : The red colour rings on the left tibia used in association with Norwegian three-lettered yellow flags have faded to ‘dirty pale colour’ in many cases.
