Stonechats

species:
European Stonechat
scientific name:
Saxicola rubicola
notes:

Combination of c-rings : 3 c-rings and a metal ring.

note 1 : in the combination at least a pink or violet ring is always present and the metal ring is always below a c-ring.

note 2 : the aim of this study is to compare the reproduction success in the different habitats of the Ardennes (B) and also the breeding site fidelity.

note 3 : original a colour-ringing program of Stonechat (Saxicola torquata) was initiated in April 2004 in the western part of the Ardenne region, Southern Belgium (close to the town of Gedinne).  This study concerns an expanding population of Stonechat, characterised by the habit of breeding in clear-cuttings and early stages of spruce tree plantations.  The goal of this study is to understand the population dynamic in a temporary habitat, in comparison with similar studies in traditional, more permanent, habitats (meadows, heathlands…). The research will also give clues about young bird dispersal, individual behaviour of breeding birds (mate fidelity, movement between successive broods…) and return rate on the same site from one year to another.
