Colour-ring on both legs (tarsus) with code (1 letter or number or 1-3 horizontal lines on each ring).
note 1 : three types of codes and colour-combinations has been used (see under).
note 1a : the following five colour combinations have been used : lime-white, yellow-white, lime-blue, lime-orange, green-lime.
note 1b : during 2002-2007 approximately 1500 birds have been colour-ringed at Kolokolkova Bay, Northwest of the Pechora Delta, Russia.
note 1c : specific places to see these birds are the German coastline, South-West Friesland and The Delta area (NL). Do please also pay attention to the amount of ringed birds origin Gotland / origin Russia.
note 2a : the following colour combinations have been used: yellow-white, blue-yellow, orange-blue, white-red, yellow-red, red-blue, green-red, green-yellow, blue-green, white-green, white-orange. During 2013 birds have been ringed with lime (left) and red (right). Take care these rings look purple or pink.
note 2b : breeding population in the Baltic (Gotland, Oland and Estonia).
note 3a : the following two colour combinations have been used: lime-yellow, green-lime.
note 3b : a third study on Barnacle geese (after Gotland and Kolokolkova Bay) along the Hellegatsplaten and Krammerse Slikken, Delta, South-Holland, The Netherlands. During 2004-2007 approximately 800 birds were ringed.
