Combination of :
* a two alpha-numeric code ring on each leg (vertically engraved, same code on both tibia).
* a metal ring.

note 1 : used colour white (W) with a black. Colour of the rings is the same on both legs.

note 2 : these codes have been used between 2002 and 2016 on a total of 165 birds.

note 3 : used codes are : letters A, B,C, E, H, J or K, followed by a  number or letter. From 2019 the letters L, N, P and R will be used.

note 4 : codes B and C followed by number/letter were used on 8 birds in Czechia in 2022 and 2024.

Yellow ring with a 3 alpha code.

note 1 :

White ring with a 3 alpha code.

note 1 : used codes are OJO to ONX.

White ring with a 2 or 3 alpha-numeric code with or without a ring (on tibia or tarsus).

note 1 :   

Yellow ring with a 2 alpha-numeric code with or without a ring (on tibia or tarsus).
 

Combination of two c-rings each with a 1 alpha or 1 numeric code (one on each tibia).

note 1 : birds are ringed in the UK and Ireland, mostly as nestlings.

note 2 : by end of summer 2008 approx. 300 birds had been ringed at 15 sites in the UK and Eire.

note 3 : orange and red rings are both used and are regularly being confused, but can be identified by the colour of the characters ; orange rings have black characters whilst red rings have white characters.

note 4 :

Green ring with black 3 alpha-numeric code (starting letter 'N').

note 1 : during 1998-2002 Marc Bosch ringed several species of Ardeidae on Medes Islands, NE Spain.
note 2 : during 2006 12 individuals were ringed.

Red ring with a white 2 numeric code and metal ring (on tibia).

note 1 : used codes are : 00 till 99.

Green ring with 3 alpha-numeric code (on right tarsus) and no metal ring.

note 1 : used code is : nnx  where n = number and x = letter.

White ring with 3 alpha-numeric code (on right tarsus) and no metal ring
