Purple Sandpiper

White ring on tibia on one leg and below a single colour-ring and metal-ring on tarsus. Second leg with two colour-rings on the tarsus.

note 1 : ring on tibia often difficult to see.
note 2 : used colours are : red, orange, yellow, white, dark-green, lime, metal.
note 3 : 81 birds are marked at Teesmouth and along the Northumberland coast.
note 4 : all birds were marked between 1992 and 1999.

Yellow c-ring (on right tibia) and yellow c-ring above metal (on left OR right tarsus) AND two c-rings (on the other tarsus).

note 1 : in the period 1999-2007 225 birds have been ringed in central Denmark and half of them (from 2003) with c-rings. The project is still running.

note 2 : Approximately 660 birds were marked on Spitzbergen in 2009 on the South Cape. It is intended to continue the project in future years. Sightings have been made west coast Finland and Sweden (Stockholm and Falsterbo), suggesting a migration through the Baltic, but we also expect sightings down the Norwegian coast into North Europe in the winter.

note 2 : 520 birds were marked on Spitzbergen 30.05 - 13.06.2010 in Adventsdeltaet, Longyearbyen. We hope to ring approximately 700 birds in August-September at the same place. It is intended to continue the projects on South Cape (orange flag) and Longyearbyen (green flag) in future years.

left leg) and a combination of two colour rings (on the other leg).

note 2 : the dark green ring is very dark-coloured and may be confused with black in some lights.
note 3 : the metal ring is always below the tarsal joint and the colour-ring is either above the metal ring, below the metal ring or above the tarsal joint.
