Caspian Gull

Red ring with a white three alpha-numeric code, starting letter 'K'.

note 1 : used codes are letter "K", number, number OR K, number , letter OR K, letter, number.

note 2 : rings 18-22 mm high are only for small chicks in breeding colonies.

note 3 : rings could be used on L. cachinnans, L. argentatus, L. fuscus , L. michahellis and hybrids between these four species.

note 4 : there are quite many hybrids, not always possible to identify in the field, so please take a digit photo if possible.

note 5 : ringing started in 2021.

Black ring with a 2 alpha-numeric code code

note 1 : rings are placed above the knee (on the tibia) for better observation results in the colony (high vegetation) and on rubbish-dumps. All other colours (with vertical placed codes) above the knee are also part of this project.

note 2 : In some series  used dots (1.A), colons (1:A) or single or double bars (1|A or 1||A). Those additional marks are part of the code

note 3 : In some series is an additional plain marker present at the other tibia, this marker is part of the combination.

note 4: Same codes can be used by other large gull species. If you have doubts about the species and/or code, please note the age and position of all the rings, including the metal ring.

note 5: used letters/numers are : A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, + and =. Only the letters I, O and Q are never used

note 6: In this project are also used a combination of two coloured rings with both one letter or number at each tibia.

note 1 : it is not possible to identify the ringed small chicks exactly, additional photos by observers are welcome. In most cases the gulls are Caspian Gulls or Herring Gulls, but note the existence of many hybrids.

Dark-green with a white four alpha-numeric code, starting letter "R" followed by a colon ":" a number and two letters (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1 : used codes R:1AA, R:2AA till R:0YZ, R:0ZZ.

note 2 :

Yellow ring with a black code 5 alpha code (starting letter 'H') and metal ring (on other leg).

Yellow ring with a black 4 alpha-numeric code, starting or ending letter "P".

note 1 : first letter “P:" followed by and three numbers or letters or a combination of them.

note 2 : three numbers or letters or a combination of them before last letter “:P".
Used codes are : 001:P ~~ 999:P, 000:P, then A01:P ~~ A99:P, A00:P, B01:P, etc.
Then 1A1:P, ~~ 0Z0:P, then 01A:P ~~ 00Z:P.

note 3 : NOT used letters : A, B, C, D, E, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z (i.e. excluding E or F, I (i), O and Q).
