note 1 :

note 1 : rings are white with black letters using the letters A, B, C, D, F, H, J, K, L, N, P, S, T, V, Z.
note 2 : birds will be ringed in Ireland from 2015.

note 1 : used codes are AAA-BZZ.

note 2 : during 2014, some 126 birds have been ringed near Montpellier, FR.

note 3 : during 2015, some 80 chicks have been ringed near Montpellier, FR.

Red ring with a white three alpha-numeric code : starting letter 'A' / number / number (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1 : during summer 2014 some 80 birds were ringed on Feugelpôlle, Ameland, (The Wadden), The Netherlands. 

note 2 : used codes are A00-A99.

Green ring with a white 3 alpha code, starting letter 'E'.

note 1 : rings are white with black letters using the letters A, B, C, D, F, H, J, K, L, N, P, S, T, V, Z.

note 2 : other colours and numbers may be used from 2011 but the first letter is always E.

note 3 : birds have been ringed in north-east Scotland by Grampian Ringing Group.

note 4 :

White ring with a black three alpha-numeric code, starting letter 'T' followed by two numbers (on left leg) and metal ring (on right leg).

note 1 : used codes are T00-T99 ,

note 2 : birds ringed on 27.06.14 on the colony of 'Utopia', Texel, The Netherlands.

note 3 : pay attention to the last number '3' and '8' : left-right surprise !!

Light-green/lime ring with a black three alpha-numeric code and metal ring (on other tarsus).

note 1 : Always letter 'N' on first position; followed by one letter and one numeric (e.g. NV2 or N2V); or one numeric and one numeric (e.g. N12); or one letter and one letter (e.g. NVT)

note 2 : a joint project of the Research Institute for Nature and Forest/INBO, Bureau Waardenburg and Ringgroup Delta. This project will run for at least one more year but reports will be replied to after this time as well.

note 3 : we use colour-rings  in order to gain information on migration, habitat use, juvenile dispersal, age of return and recruitment to the breeding colonies in the southwest of The Netherlands or beyond.

note 4 : used letters are : A, C, F, H, K, L, N, P, R, S, T, V, X, Z.

note 5 : IMPORTANT: Lime rings were used in 2014, in 2020 many lime rings show signs of wear. The colour of the ring fades to white, and the coding becomes ‘fat’.

note 2 : nestling Sandwich Terns have been ringed on the Farne Islands or Coquet Island, Northumberland, England,  by the Natural History Society of Northumbria and the National Trust and we are very grateful for any sightings.
