Common Ringed Plover

Plovers

notes:

Combination of two c-rings (colours: red and white) and a metal-ring.

note 1 : c-ring over metal ring on a tibia AND the other c-ring on tarsus.

Plovers

notes:

White ring with a two alpha-numeric code (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1: both adult and chicks are ringed in order to study the population dynamics, site fidelity and breeding success in the Delta-area, The Netherlands.

note 2: the code is repeated 3 times on the ring.

White ring with a 2 black two numeric code (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 2: the code is repeated 3 times on the ring.

Combination of :
4 c-rings plus a metal ring.
1  c-ring (on right tibia) (either red or yellow),
2 c-rings (on 1 tarsus) and c-ring over metal ring (on other tarsus).

note 1 : a red or yellow ring on the right tibia, in combination with 3 additional colour rings on tarsi, is unique to this scheme.

note 2 : the project begun in 1994 by the North West Norfolk Ringing Group and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to investigate the breeding ecology and the effects of human disturbance and predation on a population breeding at Snettisham/Heacham in Norfolk.

note 3: Colours used are: red, white, yellow, black, green, blue, light-green, pale-blue.

Plovers

notes:

Four colour rings plus a metal ring.  A single colour ring (on right tibia) (either red or yellow), 2 colour rings on 1 tarsus and colour ring over metal ring (on either tarsus).

note 1: A red or yellow ring on the right tibia, in combination with 3 additional colour rings on tarsi, is unique to this scheme.

Plovers

notes:

Single dark blue ring (on right tibia) and 1 or 2 colour rings on left tarsus, no ring or 1 colour ring (on right tarsus) and metal ring (on left tibia).

note 1: Blue ring on right tibia is unique to this scheme

note 2: this project began in 1992 to compare the behaviour of two populations of common ringed plover ; one breeding on the river habitats of Strathspey in Central Highlands of Scotland and the other in coastal habitats at Achiltibuie in Wester Ross on the north-west coast of Scotland.

note 3: Colour rings normally combination of red, orange, yellow, white, pale green, green, pale blue, blue, black

Plovers

Single dark blue ring on right tibia, 1 or 2 colour rings on left tarsus, no ring or 1 colour ring on right tarsus and metal ring on left tibia.

note 1: Blue ring on right tibia is unique to this scheme

note 2: this project began in 1992 to compare the behaviour of two populations of common ringed plover ; one breeding on the river habitats of Strathspey in Central Highlands of Scotland and the other in coastal habitats at Achiltibuie in Wester Ross on the north-west coast of Scotland.

note 3: Colour rings normally combination of red, orange, yellow, white, pale green, green, pale blue, blue, black.

Plovers

notes:

Yellow flag with 3 black letters (on right tibia) and red ring (on left tibia).

note 1 : right tibia: yellow flag engraved in black with three letters; left tibia : red ring; left tarsus : metal ring.

note 2 : Sunnmøre Ringing Group is responsible for the project. The birds will be flagged on  migration in Makkevika, on our wader station Giske OS,  Møre & Romsdal county, Norway. Until now we have ringed 8685  (only metal ring). The ringing varies from 100 -1000 birds/year. Most of the birds are caught in mist nets in night on low tide.

note 3: most of the birds caught are young. We have recoveries in breeding time from N-Norway, N-Sweden and N-Finland. In winter i.e. from Senegal (3), Sierra Leone (1) and Ghana (2).

note 4 : The red colour rings on the left tibia used in association with Norwegian three-lettered yellow flags have faded to ‘dirty pale colour’ in many cases.

note 5 :

Combination of :
* yellow ring with a black three alpha code (on right tarsus)
* red ring (on left tibia).
* metal ring (on left tarsus).

note 1 : birds ringed in the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea, Germany

note 2 : letters used: A,C,E,H,K,L,M,N,P,T,U,X,Y.
